Who are we?

"Church news" is an information service conducted by a group of Catholic journalists that offers a daily selection of news concerning the Catholic Church.

It began with the decision of a group of young members of the Christian Life Movement to serve de Church sharing interesting information from the life of the People of God that pilgrim in the countries where the Movement is present. This initiative soon grew and matured. Many volunteers joined the initiative, becoming a community of correspondents that participate in a cooperative effort at the service of the New Evangelization.

Today Church News is an autonomous service of Catholic volunteers committed with their Christian life, seeking to cooperate -through the new communications media- in generating a greater conscience of the Church's identity. By this it tries to encourage the participation and co-responsible interest in the universality of the Church through solidarity in what occurs in the different parts of the world in which we live.

Editions of Church News that appear simultaneously in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese are issued from Monday through Sunday. They are available to all the people that visit our site on the web, as well as to those who receive our service via e-mail, which we offer on a cost-free basis. Our news services are used by different media all over the world, broadcasted through radio and television and also reproduced in print.

Considering the little time that most people have nowadays, and due to the intense work rhythm of many of our readers, our daily editions try to offer a summary of information with brief news that aim to what is essential. We have correspondents in many parts of the world, which always assures us recent information about what happens in the life of the People of God.

As children of the Church, conscious of the mission to which the Lord calls us, our service is explicitly founded in a perspective of faithfulness to the Faith of the Catholic Church and its Teachings. Therefore it renders a special attention to the Successor of Peter and to the messages he gives, announcing the Gospel to the entire world and orienting Catholics in their daily lives.

About our history

"Church News" was born as an initiative of young members of the Christian Life Movement (MVC) in Lima, Peru. A group of members of the Sodalite family were interested in fostering better communication with other members of the MVC. The news, intended at first only to inform other members in the Movement, acquired regularity and began covering different aspects of the Church's daily life. The increasing number of readers brought new reporters from different countries where the MVC works or where members of the movement live, as well as people interested in participating of this initiative.

With God's grace, and after little more than two years of being hosted at the MVC's web site, we decided to give "Church News" its own home site on the web. In that way we could also answer to the growth it had been experiencing, and offer a better service to our readers. As from the 20th of October, 1998, on occasion of the 20th anniversary of the solemn inauguration of Pope John Paul II's Petrine ministry, Church News inaugurated its new home on the Internet. Since that day, the continued affluence of readers and the increasing number of people subscribed to our mailing list constantly renews our commitment to serve the ecclesial community, using the new technologies at the service of the proclamation of the Gospel.
